To all the Scrooges out there....

*Sigh*...

Why, oh why can't people be more tolerant and less rude?
Let me explain....

Today, J & I put our Christmas tree up
and
started putting up our decorations.
We watched Christmas movies
(Elf, Just Friends, Christmas Vacation),
and listened to Christmas music.
We baked cookies and made a huge pot
of chili for dinner.
It was the perfect day!

I LOVE the holiday season.
From September through December
is my favorite time of the year.
I always put my tree up in November,
just as my mom has always done.
It's tradition.
You don't have to like it, but please, respect it.

I posted this today on FB, that we were
putting up our tree and enjoying the beautiful weather
Germany was blessed with today.
This was almost immediately met with sarcasm and disdain
from a couple of people.

I don't care what they think, but
I was surprised by their negativity and judgement.
I respect their right to celebrate when they want too,
if at all. I just wish they would respect mine.

Personally, I don't think Christmas decorations, movies, music, etc.
detract from Thanksgiving.
In my opinion, four weeks just isn't enough time
to enjoy the happiness that the holiday season brings.
I'm not skipping over Thanksgiving.
I'm simply celebrating the holiday season, the season that I love.
I believe that the decorations, etc. add to the festive feeling
that this time of the year has.
They bring J & I joy, and really, in the end,
that's all that matters.

Last year, J was deployed to Iraq during the holidays.
He loves this time of the year as much as I do.
This year he will miss Thanksgiving,
so this weekend was the perfect
weekend for us to put our tree up.
Regardless of our past and present situations,
the above applies to us every year.
We will continue to put our tree up in November
and listen to Christmas music and watch Christmas movies.
Because that's what makes us happy.
It's tradition.
And it's ours.

So what do you guys think? When do you begin to put up your decorations,
listen to Christmas/holiday music,
and watch holiday movies?
Even if your opinion differs from mine, I'd still like to know! =)

We celebrate holidays whenever we can. With the military, you take it when and where you can get it and we take advantage of that. I've left the tree and all decorations up until Feb. when TC got home from deployment... If you get him for the holidays, I say celebrate as long as you can! We're spending the holidays apart again this year, so I don't know if I'll even decorate :( Post pictures so I can live vicariously through you?!

We usually put the tree up after Thanksgiving dinner. We have a big ole fake one. Every year it's the smae thing. OccDoc and I both ask "How the eff do we put this damn thing together?! Why didn't we write ourselves a note from last year?!" This year I'm going to my parents' house for Christmas, so, gasp, I probably won't even put the tree up here. I know I'm a total Scrooge!

I put them up anywhere from about now until the week after Thanksgiving. Just depends on what is going on :) I don't think I could ever skip over Thanksgiving, turkey is just so yummy!

Wow! I agree with the first comment above, with the Military you celebrate when you can! Screw the Scrooges! :-)

Pshhh posh. Everyone has their own traditions. Heck, my sister-in-law had me singing Christmas songs and watching Christmas movies last night even though I REFUSE to put up the tree until the day after Thanksgiving. Why? Because I don't feel like it's cold enough in November when I still see orange colors (it is all mental). But hey...that's me. However, those people are rude for pressing their ways onto you! If you like to celebrate in November...go for it and tell Scrooge to bahumbug off!

Oh, Kendra. I am sorry people had to be like that. I wish Joel would let me put up our tree early! I would have loved to! I think it is great that you get so excited. I can't wait to see your holiday photos.

I am putting up my Christmas decorations next week. Before Thanksgiving. Because I can.

I say it's better to decorate before Thanksgiving, because then you aren't changing decor twice in less than 6 weeks. That's just annoying. Although, I do think it's best to wait until after Halloween.

Put your tree up whenever you want, and you're right, four weeks is sooooo not enough time. I love Christmas. There's a reason I'm getting married near it. We always put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving, but that's because that was the first day the tree farm we went to was open! And screw the Scrooges, it's a joyful time and if it makes you happy, who cares what they think!

If I decorate (we usually travel during the holidays and there's no point when we won't be here to enjoy it) I do it after Thanksgiving. But I know a lot of people who do it earlier. Let them be Scrooges. You will be happy with your decorations despite their negative attitudes.
