I had heard through the blogging grapevine that this was a great book
for calming fussy newborns. The pediatrician author recommends a method he
call's the Five S's: Swaddling, Side/Stomach, Shhing, Swinging & Sucking.
When done exactly right and together, these five things are supposed to help calm
a colicky baby.
The author makes a lot of really good, logical points throughout the book and places
an emphasis on learning from the past. I found myself saying "Yep, that makes sense"
several times. I liked the book and will definitely try out his recommendations. I liked that
he covered weaning from this method, breastfeeding, other soothing techniques, and possible
underlying medical conditions.
My only criticism is that he repeats himself often and some of the chapters were mostly
fluff. The book could have been condensed and the fluff taken out, but overall, it's a short,
easy read. Once the little one arrives, Ill let you know what I really think of his method! =)
Have any of you read this book? What did you think? Have you actually tried it on your own child? What were the results?

I have The Happiest Toddler on the Block but haven't read it. My pediatric nurse mentioned this book to me the other day too. Too funny that you reviewed this. I'll have to check it out. But as a second time mom..I already knew those things. Maybe it would still be a good review for me. I hope it helps you out!
